Well, not quite... I remember writing since I could, we all like to tell stories. The first poem I wrote in Grade 7, entitled " The Silent Cow" can only be reconstructed now, so losing it's original magic. I wrote throughout High School and also through my short stay at college. At college I found the mix of performance art, collaboration and poetry lots of fun. This poem comes from that time. The year was 1986 & a certain green substance had just made its first impressions on me. It amazes me now that I wrote these words at 19, not out of any belief in artistic merit but for their presience.
Skywards
Swirling twists of golden dust,
caught, inflamed
and became my lust
To catch the eddying light
I grew wings
and became iridescent flight
And, though I was beauty
with wings of icy, shimmering night
I couldn't hold the evasive glow
despondency broke my wings
Until the light chased me skywards
on a star filled kite
I swoop and turn
enfolded in a fire
that doesn't burn.
