If you chance on this article from outside Australia- it is an observation of the local scene, and makes no attempt to speak to the horrific plight of Queers the world over.

I can not have much empathy for Gillard or Mirabella for suffering from misogyny. They are not interested in the rights of Asylum seeking women, or "homosexuals". Man up bitches, you both sat by when governments would not fund studies into gay teenage suicide, and where was the young lawyer Gillard when the gay panic defence was so prevalent in cases where queers were murdered for walking with a lisp. (Prior to the early 2000's )?

As Deborah Cameron, of Oxford University, so saliently points out in an article pertaining to her Routledge published tome " Verbal Hygiene"

"the idea that prejudice is, by definition, an expression of irrational fear and loathing tends to focus attention on the forms that are most extreme, while distracting it from the humdrum, low-level varieties which are actually far more common than full-blown hate."

This is the fact that Hets who get annoyed by our continual carping. ( After all it is true we never had it so good.) tend to miss.

As Ms. Cameron so deftly concludes:

"Prejudice against non-white people, or women, or queers, or Muslims, is not an individual character flaw or a form of mental illness. It is a political phenomenon, a by-product of the systemic oppression of some social groups by others. It is sometimes about hate, but it is always about power. The language in which we name it should not obscure that basic truth."
